Description

The flat top keeps rain off. The drop keeps it off everything around the edges too. That's the difference with Style 2.

Instead of stopping at the frame line, this waterproof pergola top extends past it with a built-in drop, so water rolls off and lands clear of your posts and beams. If you've ever watched runoff pour straight down a pergola leg and pool at the base, you know why that overhang matters. It's the same idea as a roof overhang on a house — get the water away from the structure.

Among our waterproof pergola covers, Style 2 is also the one to choose if you're running a slide-wire system. The waterproof top is cut to ride along the cables, so a wide span stays tensioned and low-sag instead of bellying in the middle. That's what makes it a proper custom slide wire pergola cover rather than a flat tarp thrown over a frame.

How to Measure Your Pergola Cover

The drop is built in, so you still only give us two numbers across the top:

Step 1 - Width

Measure the full width of the pergola's top frame, edge to edge, in feet and inches.

Step 2 - Depth

Measure the depth (front to back) across the top, edge to edge.

Step 3 - Tell us your setup

Let us know if you're mounting to a slide-wire cable so we cut for that finish. Add the optional 1–2" leeway if you want a little extra ease. We handle the overhang sizing from there.

Why Choose Our Waterproof Pergola Covers?

Runoff that clears the structure

The extended drop throws water past the frame edge, so your posts, beams, and the ground around them stay cleaner and drier than they would under a flat top.

Built for slide-wire spans

Cut to ride a cable system, so a big pergola stays tensioned end to end. No mid-span belly, no trapped puddle.

Two grades, one honest choice

ZIP Armor for the pergola that never comes down; ZIP Shield for the one that works a season or two a year. Same waterproofing, different toughness and warranty.

Backed by ZIPCushions

ZIPCovers is the outdoor-protection sister brand to ZIPCushions — 75,000+ homes served, 4.9 stars on Google. That's the crew standing behind your cover.

Fabric Information

Style 2 is the extended, water-shedding waterproof pergola top. Same two fabric grades as Style 1 — you match the build to your weather.

ZIP Armor — heavy-duty, year-round

18 oz, 1000-denier PVC-coated polyester with our longest warranty, up to 10 years. This is the grade for a custom outdoor pergola cover that lives outside through rain, snow, heat, and UV without coming down.

ZIP Shield — high-grade, seasonal

A lighter high-grade PVC-coated polyester — fully waterproof and UV-stable, with a shorter warranty. The sensible pick for milder climates or a pergola you only cover part of the year.

Where Style 2 differs is the cut. The waterproof top is built with a drop that hangs past the frame line, so runoff clears the beams instead of sheeting straight down onto them. It's also made to run on a slide-wire cable setup if you have one, which keeps a large span tensioned and flat. Seams are double-stitched and sealed; corners are reinforced around rustproof grommets.

Feature Highlights

• Extended drop design that overhangs the frame edges to push rain runoff past your posts, not down them

• Slide-wire compatible — the waterproof top can ride along a cable system for a tensioned, low-sag finish

• 100% waterproof PVC-coated fabric in two grades: ZIP Armor for year-round, ZIP Shield for seasonal use

• Made to your exact Width and Depth, with the drop built in — no separate overhang to measure

• Rustproof grommets and tie-downs hold the top taut so it stays quiet and puddle-free in wind and rain

• UV-stable, fade- and crack-resistant coating for long summers in full sun

• Canopy only — pergola frame and slide-wire hardware are not included

Frequently Asked Questions

It's a waterproof top that rides along tensioned steel cables strung across your pergola instead of sitting loose on the beams. The cables carry the load and keep the fabric pulled flat over a wide span, so it doesn't sag or trap water in the middle. Style 2 is cut to work with a slide-wire setup — you supply the cable hardware, we supply the waterproof top made to run on it.
Style 1 is a flat top that stops at the frame line. Style 2 adds a built-in drop that overhangs the edges, so runoff clears your posts and beams instead of running down them — and it's cut to work with slide-wire cable systems. Choose Style 1 for a clean modern look, Style 2 for better water management and large spans.
That's exactly what it's for. The extended drop pushes runoff out past the frame so it lands away from your posts and the area right around them. It won't wall off the sides like a curtain would, but it keeps the structure and its footings noticeably drier than a flush flat top.
This is a fixed tensioned top, not a motorized retractable canopy. On a slide-wire setup you can hand-slide the fabric along the cables to bunch it open or draw it closed, but there's no automated retraction. If you want a permanently sealed roof, tie it down taut and leave it.
The drop is sized to clear the frame edge and direct water past it — think of it as a modest overhang rather than a wide awning. Because every cover is built to order, tell us if you want a deeper drop for more side protection and we'll factor it into the cut.
Not when it's tied down properly. The perimeter grommets let you cinch the top taut to the beams or the slide wire, and a tensioned cover has very little slack for wind to grab. For the windiest sites, ZIP Armor's heavier fabric holds its shape better than lighter materials.
