The Chain Pass-Through — Where Stock Covers Fail

A hanging chair hangs from one point — usually a single chain or rope from a stand arm or a ceiling rafter. A generic cover thrown over the top either leaves a gap at the chain (rain pours through, fills the seat, and rots the cushion) or seals the chain inside the cover (impossible to hang or unhang without removing the cover entirely).

Our custom covers solve both problems with a sleeved top — a small reinforced opening at the highest point of the cover with a drawstring that cinches tight around the chain. The chain runs out of the top, the cover seals around it, and rain slides off the dome instead of pooling at the suspension point.

The same construction works for the rope-hung swing chair styles. Send the chain or rope diameter with the order so we can cut the sleeve to the right size — too loose lets rain in, too tight makes the cover hard to slip on.

Hanging chair shapes look similar from a distance but differ in the way the cover wraps. The seat opening, the side wings, and the bottom shell all change between styles.

Egg Chairs

The classic enclosed-pod shape. Wicker shell wrapping a deep seat cushion, with a single round opening at the front. The cover is cut as a teardrop that hugs the egg shape, with the chain sleeve at the top and a drawstring hem at the bottom of the pod.

Basket Chairs

Open-top wicker basket — looks like a deep bucket on a chain. Cover drops over the top and seals to the underside of the basket with a drawstring hem. The wicker is the part that needs protection here — UV degrades natural fibers fast, and the cover stops the chalking at the rim.

Nest Chairs

Round half-open cradle, usually woven over a metal frame. The cover wraps the round shell and ties off at the open front, with a reinforced panel at the chain sleeve and a vented top so humidity does not stagnate inside the curve.

The Spec That Holds Through a Wet Season

Hanging chairs sit outside on porches, pergolas, and covered patios — usually shaded but never dry. That creates the conditions that grow mildew in seat cushions and rot natural-fiber wicker over the winter. The 18 oz PVC-coated 1000 Denier polyester we use is waterproof on the outside and breathable through vented top panels, so the cushion underneath stays dry and the wicker stays at a stable humidity.
