Description

Your rooftop downdraft swamp cooler is the workhorse of summer cooling in dry climates. Without a proper swamp cooler cover, constant weather exposure will let cold winter air flow through the pad bays and into the duct, and freeze-crack the pump line at the float valve. Standard downdraft swamp cooler covers often don't provide the coverage they need, resulting in baggy, leaky coverage that does more harm than protection.

Invest in a custom swamp cooler cover to preserve your downdraft swamp cooler. A reliable, tailored, all-weather protection that not only promises to protect but actually protects. These waterproof downdraft swamp cooler covers are designed with heavy-duty polyvinyl chloride-coated material to keep your investment safe in rain, Sun, snow, sleet, or wind.

Why Choose Our Downdraft Swamp Cooler Covers?

• Custom-Tailored

Tailored, based on your downdraft swamp cooler's dimensions, no sagging, no bunching, just precision-fit coverage. One-size-fits-none, customized based on your given measurements, feels like yours. These are not regular baggy covers; these are made to follow the exact outline of your downdraft swamp cooler.

• Breathable Design

Designed with air vents to release trapped air and moisture, leading to enhanced airflow. The free movement of air prevents mold and mildew growth as well, keeping your downdraft swamp cooler from deteriorating between uses.

• All Weather Performance

These waterproof downdraft swamp cooler covers are designed to perform in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, snow, rain, or wind. The PVC coating protects against harmful UV rays, rain, and snow, so your downdraft swamp cooler comes out of the off-season in the same shape it went in.

• Effortless Maintenance with Functional Features

These downdraft swamp cooler covers are easy to clean and maintain. Just hand-wash and air-dry completely for the next use. Designed with dual handles to facilitate easy installation and removal. Optional drawstrings for extra wind security on exposed installs.

• Long-term Durability

The heavy-duty downdraft swamp cooler covers are backed by a 10-year warranty to ensure peace of mind for you and longevity for your downdraft swamp cooler. ZIPCovers is the protective sister brand to ZIPCushions — founded by Maria, trusted by 75,000+ homes and rated 4.9 out of 5 on Google.

Frequently Asked Questions

Discharge direction defines the cover. Downdraft swamp coolers sit on a rooftop curb with the cooled air discharging straight down through the curb into the ceiling duct below — the bottom of the cooler is open to the duct, and the four sides plus the top need to be covered. Sidedraft coolers discharge horizontally out a side panel and can sit on the ground or the roof — the cover patterns to a different envelope because one side has the discharge cutout. A sidedraft cover used on a downdraft unit leaves the air-discharge geometry mismatched and bags on the wrong sides. Pick the SKU that matches your cooler's discharge orientation.
The cooler body. Measure the housing length, width, and height as it sits on the curb — those are the dimensions the cover patterns to. The curb itself (the wooden or metal frame the cooler sits on, with the duct opening cut through the middle) handles the bottom seal because the cooler is bolted down to it. If you want the cover to wrap down past the curb to the roof surface, measure curb height separately and specify "skirt past curb" at checkout. Most installs cover only the cooler body and leave the curb exposed.
Four steps. Drain the water reservoir at the bottom of the cooler completely. Remove and dispose of disposable cooling pads (or clean, dry, and store reusable pads separately). Disconnect the water supply line at the cooler and drain it back to the shut-off valve. Wipe dry the reservoir, blower wheel, and any standing water on internal surfaces. Then cover. Skipping any of these steps lets water freeze inside the housing, mold grow on wet pads, or mineral deposits corrode internal hardware across the off-season.
Yes — this is the single most important off-season step. Water left in a supply line on a rooftop freezes in winter, expands, and cracks the line where it enters the cooler. The crack doesn't show until spring start-up, when the line floods the housing and sometimes the ceiling below, before anyone notices. Shut off the rooftop or attic water valve, open the cooler-side fitting and drain the line, then disconnect. If your cooler has a purge/bleed line that drains to the roof drain, drain that too. The cover protects what's inside the housing; the supply line needs separate winterization.
Take them out — or at least dry them fully before covering. Disposable aspen pads (the wood-fiber kind in most residential coolers) hold moisture and grow mold inside a covered unit; dispose of them at season's end and reinstall fresh ones in spring. Reusable CelDek or rigid-media pads can be cleaned (rinse with white vinegar to dissolve mineral deposits, then a clean water rinse), dried fully in the sun, and either reinstalled dry for winter storage or stored separately in a dry location. Wet pads under a cover are the most common reason swamp coolers come out of winter smelling sour.
Yes, from outside, but not from below. The cover plus drawstring hem at the base of the housing seals out rodents trying to enter from outside (chewing through pads, climbing through louvers). But rooftop swamp coolers also have an open path from the indoor ceiling vent up through the duct into the cooler — rodents already inside the house can climb up the duct and nest in the cooler housing from below, where the cover doesn't help. Close the indoor ceiling vent with a damper or a fitted cover during the off-season to block that bottom entry. Two seals, top and bottom.
Yes. The sealed cover keeps the housing interior dry through rain, snow, and humidity cycles, which is what extends blower motor and belt life across multiple seasons. Before covering, wipe down the blower wheel (mineral deposits from the cooling water build up on the blades), inspect the belt for cracking (replace if cracked — pre-emptive winter replacement is easier than a spring service call), and check the motor mount bolts. The vented top panels release any humidity that builds up from residual moisture, so the interior stays dry rather than swampy under the cover.
Yes — all major downdraft swamp cooler brands are standard production. MasterCool (the dominant Southwest residential brand), Champion Cooler (Essick Air's residential line — Champion 4001 / N40 / N46 series), Phoenix Manufacturing, Aerocool Trophy series, Adobe Air, Premier Industries, Brisa, and Frigiking are all in the pattern library, along with U.S. Cool commercial downdraft units. Send the model number plus the CFM rating (4500, 5500, 6500 CFM) since the same brand sells different housing sizes under each CFM tier, and the cover patterns to the actual housing dimensions.

The tie downs at the corners were not long enough to latch together. Otherwise the build quality was very high.

Highly recommend!

I ordered a right arm love seat cover, left arm love seat cover and an ottoman cover in the higher end fabric. With a discount code, all 3 were a little over $300. The covers are perfect and the quality of the fabric is…..well, let’s just say it’ll probably outlive me! They’re very heavy duty and totally waterproof. Craftsmanship is excellent.

Customer service was A+. I had questions about measuring and some concerns about shipping. I used the chat option for questions about measurements and it was a REAL person, not a bot. He was friendly and personable. They also contacted me to verify some things about my measurements. When I contacted both sales and customer service via email with a question, they responded within hours. They’re constructed in another country and it took about 6 weeks from order to delivery. The delay was FedEx customs.

Bottom line, they are excellent covers at an extremely fair price that fit perfectly, will last forever and are a very friendly, responsive, competent company to work with.

Not waterproof

Not waterproof. After getting 1/2” of rain over a few hours the cushions were very wet when the cover was taken off the next day. Not sure how this happened with a “waterproof “ cover. Does not appear to be breathable as they claim. Very disappointed.
