Custom Equipment Covers

Every machine that lives outside ages faster than the one in the garage. Custom equipment covers, measured to the machine you actually own, are how you stop paying for that in repair bills.

ZIPCovers sews outdoor equipment covers across nine categories — air conditioners, patio heaters, lawn mowers, gym equipment, log splitters, pressure washers, swamp coolers, snowblowers, and winches. Send us the width, depth, and height of your machine, and we will cut the cover to those dimensions in 18 oz PVC-coated 1000 Denier polyester. Two grades to pick from: ZIP Armor when the climate is actively wearing your gear down, ZIP Shield when the weather is milder. The fit is the same snug fit either way — what changes is the weather rating and how long the warranty runs.

Why Universal Equipment Covers Keep Failing?

Machines are not boxes. A mower has a discharge chute and a handlebar. A pressure washer has a hose reel and a wand holder. A patio heater is a pole with a dome on top. Universal covers ignore all of that — they come in three sizes, drape like a tent, and leave slack fabric everywhere the machine is not shaped like the bag.

Slack fabric is where covers die. Wind gets under it and works the cover loose an inch at a time. Rain pools in the low spots and wicks through the seams. Sun eats away at the thin material at every flex point, and by the second season, the cover is cracked at the folds and pulling apart at the corners.

The tarp-and-bungee routine fails the same way for the same reason — nothing holds shape against a machine it was never cut for. A cover sewn to your measurements sits tight against the body of the equipment, gives the wind nothing to grab, and gives water nowhere to sit. No guesswork, no flapping, no low spots.

What to Cover and When?

Most equipment damage happens in the idle months, when the machine sits in one spot collecting whatever the season drops on it. The protection calendar looks different depending on what you own.

Idle Through Winter

Central AC condensers, lawn mowers, pressure washers, and swamp coolers all go dormant when the temperature drops. Falling leaves mat against fins and intakes, freeze-thaw cycles work moisture into housings, and rodents move into any dry cavity they can find. Cover these in fall, uncover them when you fire them up in spring.

Idle Through Summer

Snowblowers, log splitters, and patio heaters sit out the hot months, and summer is harder on them than most owners expect. Long UV exposure chalks paint and dries out seals, humidity keeps bare metal sweating, and pollen cakes onto every greased surface. A vented cover keeps all three off the machine.

Exposed All Year

Winches on trailers and truck beds, and gym equipment on patios or in open-air home gyms, never really get an off-season. These take a cover that goes on and comes off constantly — reinforced corners, a hem that cinches fast, and fabric heavy enough to shrug off daily handling.

How to Measure Outdoor Equipment for a Custom Cover

Every machine on this page measures in the same basic way, and it takes a tape measure and about five minutes.

Start With the Box

Picture the smallest box the machine would fit inside, then measure that box: widest point side to side, deepest point front to back, tallest point ground to top. Those three numbers in inches are the core of every order. When a machine tapers or has a round profile — a column heater, a round-top condenser — note the diameter at the widest point and the total height.

Count the Attachments

Anything that changes the outline of the machine belongs in the numbers. Mower handlebars in their parked position. A snowblower chute pointed forward. A hose reel on the back of a pressure washer. Decide whether the attachment stays under the cover, then measure to its farthest point. If you would rather fold or remove it for storage, measure without it.

Send a Photo If in Doubt

Odd shape, mixed attachments, or a machine that does not match anything on the subcategory pages? Snap two photos, note the make and model, and send them to sales@zipcovers.com — the team responds with the exact dimensions to record. Prefer to talk it through? Call +1 720-882-0756.

The Fabric — 18 oz PVC-Coated 1000 Denier Polyester

One fabric spec runs across every equipment cover we make: 18 oz PVC-coated 1000 Denier polyester. Big-box covers typically run 8 to 12 oz, and the weight difference is the whole story — the heavier fabric holds its shape in wind, keeps its flexibility through hard freezes, and keeps its color through years of direct sun thanks to the UV-stabilized coating.

Construction carries the rest. Double-stitched seams at every panel joint. Reinforced corners where hands grab the cover season after season. Vented panels that let warm, humid air rise out of the cover instead of condensing on the machine underneath — engines, coils, and electronics all rust from trapped moisture faster than they rust from rain. A drawstring or grommet-and-bungee hem finishes the bottom so the cover stays put.

Pick a Grade — ZIP Armor or ZIP Shield

ZIP Armor is the heavy-duty grade, built for the climates that are genuinely hard on machinery — coastal salt air, deep freeze-thaw winters, relentless southern UV. 10-year warranty.

ZIP Shield is the high-grade PVC-coated polyester option for moderate climates — average rain, mild winters, normal sun. Same fabric weight, same fiber density, 7-year warranty.

Pick by the weather your equipment actually sits in, not by budget. If the climate cracks, bleaches, or rusts things, go ZIP Armor. Otherwise ZIP Shield.

Warranty, Shipping, and Who Sews These

ZIP Armor equipment covers carry a 10-year warranty and ZIP Shield covers carry 7 — numbers we chose because the fabric earns them, not because a landing page needed them.

Our outdoor kitchen has an unusual counter shape, so we were nervous about ordering online. The finished cover fits surprisingly well around every section. It feels heavy-duty, and the reinforced stitching gives me confidence that it will last.

I wasn’t sure about the measurements for my custom piece, but the they walked me through the process step by step. They double-checked the dimensions before production and the final cover fits like it was made by hand for my furniture. Really impressed with both the service and the material quality.

Michelle Jun Portland, Oregon

We ordered the cover large enough to protect our dining table and chairs together. It fits exactly as planned and makes preparing for bad weather much faster. The water beads up nicely instead of soaking into the fabric.

L-Shaped Sectional Cover — Much Neater Than Separate Covers: We previously used three different covers for our sectional, and the patio always looked messy. The custom L-shaped cover fits the entire sofa as one piece. It looks cleaner, stays secure, and saves us time whenever rain is expected.

Stayed Secure During Strong Winds We regularly get strong winds in our backyard, and our previous cover would constantly blow off. This one stays securely in position and provides full coverage around the couch. It feels durable and has already handled several storms without any problems.

Our new patio couch was a big investment, and we wanted something better than a loose universal cover. The measurements came out right, the stitching looks strong, and the cover gives the entire seating area a much more organized appearance.

★★★★★

The cover feels much stronger than the inexpensive one we previously owned, but it is still manageable when putting it on or taking it off. The handles are useful, and the secure bottom keeps it from lifting whenever the wind picks up.

Brian Denver
★★★★★

Our curved outdoor couch was difficult to find a cover for, so ordering a custom size made sense. The finished cover follows the shape nicely and doesn’t have a lot of extra fabric hanging around. It looks neat and professionally made.

Rebecca Scottsdale, Arizona

Kept Our Couch Completely Dry We had two days of heavy rain right after putting the cover on, and our couch stayed completely dry underneath. The fit is accurate without being difficult to remove. I’m very happy with the fabric quality and overall construction.

Daniel Tampa, Florida

Fits Better Than Any Store-Bought Cover I’ve tried several standard couch covers, but they were always loose and collected water. This custom cover fits our outdoor sofa perfectly and looks much cleaner on the patio. The material feels sturdy, and it stayed secure during a windy weekend.
